About Our Company
Embarking on a new venture in 1972, Leon and Lynda Swinehart and Sam and Elaine Harding opened a building center in Orofino, Idaho; Harding's Inc. Shortly after, the couples seized the opportunity to build a lumber yard and retail store- something they felt that the community needed. Bi-Rite Lumber was nestled in Kamiah, Idaho, the neighboring town of Orofino. It did not take very long for both businesses to become successful. The Swinehart's later sold their interest in Harding's Inc. to Sam and Elaine, who in turn sold their interests in Bi-Rite to Leon and Lynda.
In 1980 the Swinehart's purchased property on 13th and Fair Street in Clarkston, Washington, and in May of the following year opened a second location of Bi-Rite Lumber. They re-purchased the Orofino Lumber Center, Harding's, in 1983, and re-named it Bi-Rite Lumber. Leon and Lynda successfully ran the three stores for five years, when they felt it was time to streamline business, and closed the Orofino store in 1988.
Leon sought out more rural areas to relocate and open a Bi-Rite store, which eventually landed the family in Sunnyside, Washington in 1993. This central location enabled them to reach clients in the Tri-Cities, as well as the rest of the Yakima Valley. Bi-Rite had finally found it's permanent home.
Lynda and Leon continue to be involved in the day to day business of the store, but have entrusted the bulk of the business to their children. Their son, Eric, manages the store, while daughter Tracy manages Accounts Payable and Receivables. You can also find their grandson, Andrew, assisting customers.
